Palliative Chemo

Hi, I've just been told my Cancer had returned. I've been offered Palliative Chemo.
But that was it, no offers of help support or information. My next appointment which is a phone call isn't till the 12th April?????
Ive got no idea where to go from here?

  • Hello Tinzy

I'm so sorry to hear that you've had bad news about your cancer. I just wanted to quickly pop on and say you're welcome to give our team of nurses a call if you'd like to talk things through with someone. They're available Monday to Friday from 9 am to 5 pm on 0808 800 4040.

If you'd prefer to give us a little more about your diagnosis I'll see if I can reply with some links to information or support services.

    Best wishes,

  • Hi Jen,

I was diagnosed with stage 4A vaginal cancer in Feb 2019. I had 5 rounds of chemo and 30 radiotherapy sessions.
I started to have symptoms again around Christmas time. Had MRI then PET scan which confirmed cancer has returned. Unable to have any more radiotherapy as have already had the maximum amount.
so offered palliative Chemo or the option of doing nothing.
But that was it???? No further information.
as I said I'm getting a phone call appointment on 12th April. No mention of when chemo can start etc.
I feel this is a long time(6 weeks) just to be 'left to get on with it?????

  • Hello I am sorry for  your diagnosis.I am the same.have stage 4 breast cancer.I was dumped by my hospital no further treatment offered only palliative chemo.i am only 43.I am still on chemo tablets but I called my GP and was referred to another hospital where they can hopefully offer me better treatment. No cancer patient no matter what stage deserve to be dumped and treated like a muppet. So try to call your GP.

  • I feel like this happened to my dad. He was weak and they left him to die without anything.

  • Hello I am sorry for your dad.yoy have to file up a complain even he is not there you have to fight. They do it to too many people that not right.

    Denise

  • I am going too. I spoke to Pals and they want me to put a formal complaint in. My dad was diagnosed Dec, we were told it was completely curable, had his operation to remove the tumour in the bowel and it was bigger, still had not spread. They told us three months of chemo and then re-operate. Next thing he is too weak for chemo and no treatment is offered, he got sent home to die.

  • Oh dear I am so sorry thats disgustdisting.nobody should be treated like this.I got a letter back and they are going to investigate my complain against my doctor why she changed my chemo meds and other uncaring issues.Apparently it will take till 30.4 because of covid!!!!!!

  • It breaks my heart to think that if he received the right care then he could still be fighting. Fighting to be with his 15month old granddaughter . I'm glad they have taken your complaint seriously. Yeah mine told me that there would be a wait, I'm just going to spend my time with my dad first

  • Thats ok.Let me know how your complain going.they destroyed everything in my life and they are happy. So I destroy theirs. We were planning kids before, was working as senior carer now no kids and can't move my right hand because of the negligence I told 4xtimes about my hand.

  • I will thank you. Oh Hun that's horrible.. I am so sorry you had to go rhrough that and are now still living through this .

That's the thing they don't listen, we kept telling them that my dad was weak, he even went into hospital prior to his operation and nothing was done.
