My amazing sister

My sister was diagnosed with breast cancer 2 years ago . At 48 years old. Following chemo mastectomy ,she thought she was through it. She loves life and continued working through treatment. Until she started having bother with her leg. It felt kind of numb and heavy. More scans, to find out it had spread to her brain. Full brain radiotherapy followed and herceptin.  Has to stop working as her leg got worse. She became a granny and was at her birth. Happy times with the baby. Now, she cant stand or walk, came on quite  sudden. Scan revealed the tumour had grown, although she has a few tumours the one at the back of her head has grown . 2 days ago she was told by phone call there is nothing they can do. Way back at the beginning , they wanted to do brain surgery but my sister was petrified,  so went with the chemo and herceptin.  Now , shes wishing she had done surgery , but theres risks with that too. This has been the most heartbreaking time of my life . She was a healthy girl.  No smoking , no drinking,  she exercised... Shes my hero in life, I cant believe it.

  • Hello Glenrothestown

I'm so very sorry to hear about your sister's diagnosis and that things have deteriorated for her recently. It's obviously an incredibly difficult time for you all, and I can understand that you're feeling heartbroken.

Sometimes it can help to talk things through and I wonder if you might like to speak to one of our nurses. I'm sure they would be happy to offer some support. They're available Monday to Friday from 9 am to 5 pm on 0808 800 4040.

    Best wishes,
