This is my first ever post, I'm reaching out to those who understand what I am going through right now, I'm heartbroken.
My dad was diagnosed with Mesothelioma in Aug and after his diagnosis was opted into the Mars 2 trial. He was admitted on Dec 7th 2020 into hospital to remove the lining of his lungs, after this op surgeon said it went well then just 3 weeks later the docs discovered his osphegus had perthorated which was leaking fluid into his lungs.
The doctors attempted to repair this but was not successful, they then had to re open his wound and give him an antibaterial wash due to the infection in his lungs and on doing so had they disconnected the osphegus from the stomach to avoid any acid travelling back up.
After this dad wasn't getting better, he was nill by mouth, after another few weeks he still wasn't improving he was too weak to get the secretions off his chest and couldn't swallow. He has had a really tough time, the doctors x-rayed his chest to find that he developed pneumonia. He has been on high level of oxygen for some time now as his breathing has become really bad he has been bed bound the majority of the past 4 weeks , the last time he got out of bed to sit in the chair was last Saturday but since then his saturation level are low and demand for oxygen is very high. After looking at the most recent x-ray the doctor says it looks much worse and there are dark shadows showing.
As we prepare to enter the final stages of his life, the doctors have given him lots of medicine to keep him pain free. He is desperate for us to bring him home which the hospital have agreed a Fast track home but we are not sure if he is going to be well enough to be transferred from high flow oxygen to canister oxygen (for home use) we are praying that he just falls asleep and is no longer in pain. He really seems to continue to fight, he is talking with us a bit less than a few day ago, sleeping a little more. Last week he was getting really panicky every time he was moved, because he felt like he couldn't breath. The docs say there is lots of fluid on the lungs. This disease is awful and expected this to be the outcome but now It's actually hear it hurts so bad I feel so helpless for him but am Trying to do what I know he would it like us to do.
