Untreatable liver cancer

Hi,

my mother has had cancer in her liver for a few years now that we think spread from her bowel cancer. Treatment we thought was helping but recently after many delays on scans etc because of the pandemic we have been told just last week it is now untreatable. They have referred her to end of life care team but no other real info.
We weren't told any time frames for life expectancy, what stage the cancer was at so I have no real idea how long she may live.
I have researched a little the stages and is this something The NHS use? If so should I go back and ask, so it may give me more idea if she has months or possibly years.
she isn't a fit woman anymore, bowel removed due to her cancer, a kidney removed due to the botched bowel removal op, breathing issues with asthma but she is a fighter.
So basically, should we have got a stage of cancer and how long may she last?

  • Hello Golfcain0001

I'm sorry to hear that your Mother has recently been told that her cancer is untreatable. I'm sure it's been a difficult time for you all and it's understandable that you have some questions.

You mention in your post that she has been referred to the end of life care team. Have they been in touch? I'm sure that they will have been given a handover by the Consultant's team and should be able to answer some of your questions.

If you'd like to chat with one of our team of nurses you're most welcome to give them a call. They may be able to give you some general information and advice that helps. If you'd like to speak with them they're available Monday to Friday 9 am to 5 pm on 0808 800 4040.

    Best wishes,
