Lung cancer stage 3 in very elderley

My nan is 95 and was diagnosed with lung cancer stage 3 (5cm tumour and spread to lymph nodes) back in September last year. She doesn't appear to have any cancer symptoms yet (cancer was discovered by accident in hospital after a uti).

She's going strong, it seems, apart from leg.pain which she always had.

The cancer is completely untreated due to her age. She has carers now, as can't do much anymore.

I know no one can tell me how long she has, but based on your experience or knowledge, how fast does lung cancer (non small) grow, what are signs she is in her last weeks, and how long can people her age go without treatment based on any knowledge you have?

Thanks

  • As I noticed your post hadn't received a reply and that you're new here I wanted to stop by to say hello and welcome you to Cancer Chat, Lookingforbetter.

I'm sorry to hear that your nan was diagnosed with lung cancer stage 3 and that due to her age, she is not receiving any treatment.

This is something many of our members who cared for loved ones with cancer will understand, and I hope some of them will come along shortly to chat with you and offer insight.

The other thing I wanted to mention is that if you think chatting with someone with a medical background, our friendly team of nurses is available, so feel free to ring them on their telephone number 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9 a.m. - 5 p.m.

    Best wishes,
