Hi my dad has been diagnosed stage 4 lung cancer

Hi everyone my dad got diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer this year n my heart broke into a million pieces but he's positive so I'm trying to be to but on his letter it stated that he would receive 6 sessions of chemo and then a scan to see if he should have a further 6 sessions but hes now had 8 sessions and no scan my dad obviously has to go on his own due to covid so we cant ask any questions and its driving me insane is this normal for them to keep carrying on with chemo with no scan

  • Hi mac89, my husband has lung cancer stage 4, yes chemo can be given until a scan is arranged, so don't worry.  He should have a cancer nurse so ask him for permission to speak to her about your concerns.  Good luck, Carol

  • Hi thank your for replying so quick that's a bit more reassuring thanks amy

  • Hi Mac89.

I am so sorry to hear about your dad. My heart goes out to you. My grandad (who is more like my dad) has also been diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer 10 weeks ago. We found out on 31st that his treatment (chemo) will be palliative care. He is having 4 sessions, and after 2 will have a scan to see if his body is responding.
you might actually be allowed to appointments with your dad, as I know my Mam has been going with my grandad. She's not allowed to chemo appointments, but has been to everything else. She rang his cancer nurse and asked. Also if your dad gives permission the cancer nurse will be able to speak to you and that will give you a chance to ask everything you need to.

thinking of you and your family x
