Fighting bowel & bone cancer, treatment stopped

Hello,

My mum has been fighting bowel and bone cancer for sometime but the chemo is no longer having any effect therefore, the oncologist has stopped all treatment.  The bone cancer seems to be more aggressive of the two.  A couple of years ago mum also had breast cancer of which she had a single mastectomy, fortunately this cancer has not returned however, the bowel did about 18 months ago.  As you can read mum is a real fighter.

My question to the forum is, knowing that all treatment has been stopped, how long normally does a patient have left?  The doctors are unable to provide a timeframe.

  • Hi Mich79,

Welcome to Cancer Chat. I'm very sorry to read about your mum's situation - I can only imagine how difficult this must be for all of you. She certainly does sound like a fighter.

Unfortunately it will be hard for anyone here to advise on the answer to your question. Typically it is only really a person's doctor/specialist who can advise on this. I would encourage you to speak to them again at some point to see if they can offer any guidance at all.

If you would like to speak to one of our nurses, you can reach them on 0808 800 4040 - Monday-Friday, 9-5 - although please note they won't be able to answer your question exactly, but it may help to talk things through.

    Wishing you all the best,

    Ben
