Hi, I am sorry to hear about your dad and what you are going through.

I am 52 and had an unexplained lump last year (12x10x11cm) attached to my liver. After it any a good portion of my liver was removed they confirmed it was hcc primary liver cancer. I had no cancer symptoms or could they explain why I had cancer. The cancer came back on a different part of the liver so I had two lots of tace - the targeted chemo like your dad. On the follow up ct scan it showed the tace had failed and the cancer had grown in the liver as well as spread to the small intestine and lungs. Even though I was still feeling ok and working I was told I had become terminal - my life expectancy was less than a year. I like your dad was not offered further chemo, surgery or transplant. My only option was the pills (Sorafenib which target cancer growth). I took them for 5 months - the first 3 month scan showed no change in the cancer growth. The side effects which I had from the pills were diahorrea, blisters on hands/feet, hair loss, dry skin, sore tongue and stomach pains. The side effects grew less as my body got used to the medication. I had a month of bad stomach pain and ended up having a early ct scan. This showed the cancer had grown and warranted a change in medication. I am now on regorafenib a similar pill to Sorafenib so similar side effects. It's day 5 now and I have experience a little bit of diahorrea but not much else. I have also been put forward to see if I can take part in a car T cell phase 1 clinical trial. All these treatments all have very scary side effects but everyone is different so your dad might not get them. I cope and keep going as I want to spend more time with my three children and loved ones.  I hope all the best for your dad and you work out what is the best for you.
