Terminal breast cancer in liver

My Mum (83) has terminal breast cancerr that has metastized to her liver, as well as a few other areas.  She was told without palliative chemotherapy she had weeks to 3 months to live and with it, if it works, around 6 months.  She was shocked at the prognosis and understandably grabbed onto chemotherapy.  They have suggested 3 weeks on a low dose infusion every week followed by 6 weeks at a higher dose and then a scan.  If it has worked 9 more weekly sessions.

I am caring for her and she is exhausted and breathless.  When asked to self report her tiredness she under scores because I am doing everything.  This morning she dressed and was so exhausted after dressing that she had to sit to do her teeth and is now sitting looking totally spent.  I can't see how she can tolerate the chemotherapy and am terrified it will make her final weeks worse than they need be.  She is very up and down and when people come adrenalin kicks in and she can be really animated but afterwards frequently spends the remainder of the day exhausted.

If anyone has a similar experience I would be grateful to hear good and bad experiences.

Thanks.

  • Hello i am bit younger 43 years old

Doctors can be very wromg most of the time

They just read some old statistics from the internet.

I was diagnosed in May 2019.been on weekly chemo.since August 2019 and my liver and kidney is clear now.Only cancer left is in my lungs but the nodules keep shrinking even there.I am doing well on chemo I have returned back to work par time.

  • That gives me some hope that she will tolerate the treatment well.  I hope that you continue to make progress.
