Lung cancer spread no treatment

Hello

My dad 82 was fit and well till 4 weeks ago, he woke up and was unsteady on his feet called gp who saod didnt think its a stroke and to see how it goes.

Same thing happened 2 weeks later so gp sent to a and e.

Kept in 2 days comfirmed with stroke. And looked like another older one as well on scan.

Had chest xray while in which saw a legion.

Booked in for scans following week and sent home.

On the saturday he slipped off the side of the bed couldnt fell his arm or leg. Ambulance came and took him in. Drs said a seizure from the stroke.

Mum called on monday to ask how he was after stroke who ever answered phone said not a stroke its a brain tumor.

She asked for dr to call who then said lung cancer spread to brain and liver and 2 months to live.

This is all from a scan. Cancelled mri and put him on steroids and anti seizure drugs.

Not been offered any treatment or even a biopsy.

His actually on stroke ward.

Apart from the numbness in his arm and leg he hasnt had a single sympton no cough no headaches litrally nothing. Cooks shops walks dog everyday. And such a keen gardener which looks like chelsea flower show.

Any ideas?

  • Awful isnt it my daughter was reading his hospital notes out to me tonight and it doesnt even mention tbe pancreatias so no idea what they are talking about.

It says solitary mass of so many mm in brain.

Small one top left lung. Lymph node in stomach and liver. And a spot of the spine which they are not worried about. Discrepancies between first scan showing a stroke no tumor to a week later a tumor no stroke.

I suppose to the drs they see it all the time and people are numbers. You hear so many positive storys but equally many horror stories. x

  • Hi

    Hope you are well.

I have just find this post. My mother in law has been diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer which has spred to her brain on 30.03.2020. She didn't have any obvious symptoms apart of extreme fatigue. But she would still work.

It started from simple blood tests, x ray and ct scans. On Space of 2 weeks we had a diagnosis. She didn't receive any treatment at all. Too late and too advanced cancer.

Now she loses her balance suddenly, coughing up blood exesevly been put on morphine from today to help her breathe a bit easier.

Is so hard to see her sleeping 75% of her day. But still eating and can chat away.

I am so scared of what is to come. We take each day as it comes but been given only months.

  • So sorry to read your sad post. So terrifyingly it really is.

Still no news of the blood test results to see where the cancer might of started. My dad is home and seems pretty normal, litrally no symptoms despite them saying he maybe only has 6/8eeeks if it started in pancreas.

Was your MIL not offered immunotheraphy or palative chemo?.

Everyday is so hard wondering if today will be the day we reach a downward spiral.

Is your MIL at home or in hospital? Have they said why she wasnt offered any treatment.

I will be really thinking of you all and how terrible this wicked illness is especially now with covid.

  • No she wasn't offered nothing. Chemo was to risky due to covid but because how the cancer spread around her lungs chemo will just shorter her life. She is on steroids to reduce luqid around her brain tumor but that's is. The rest if meds just to keep her comfortable. We have just started getting carers to help her with personal hygiene and falls alarm in case she will fall when alone. She was staying with us on beginning of lockdown but then decided she is more comfortable in her own house. We have a 19 month old running around the house so she was struggling to get rest.

She was very independent women who worked right up to her diagnosis. Is hard trying offering help and she is annoyed and angry. Is heart breaking.

Hope your dad's results will come through soon so you can get the answers.

I think we have to just cherish the moments now as much we can.

    Sending you love.

  • Thats so very sad.

This situation with Covid is absolutely heartbreaking.

I think one of the hardest things to accept is how quickly this all happens. One day life is normal and next day life is turned upside down with a stage 4 cancer diagnosis.

We weve told 6/8weeks this time last week

Nothing has changed in regards to my dads health so should we now be saying 5/7 weeks.

Lets hope everyone and their familys  suffering from this dreadful disease find peace with no pain. x

  • Dads blood markers came back normal today so just a wait for liver biopsy now. c

  • Hi Ollie,

To be honest the nurses have said she seems 'ok' whatever that is suppose to mean. She's eating and drinking but refusing her morning medication everyday but taking her dinner time medication. I haven't spoken to mum since Tuesday when she was screaming down the phone to me, I think her battery has gone on her mobile, I did speak to the doctor this morning and they are waiting for results back from a CTPA scan she had yesyerday which I believe is to check for blood clots in the arteries from the heart to the lungs (googled this).

I started working again on Wednesday after having 6 weeks off on sick and that has taken my mind off it for a little while.

How is your dad? And how are you? X

  • Sorry I have only just seen this message. Do you know when the biopsy will be? X

  • Hi Claire.

Its very difficult isnt it, im still working to, I think its helps to be busy.

My Dad seems fine in himself doing every thing as normal. My dsughter called about the biopsy yesterday and the lung nurse checked and said two different departments thought the other one was doing it so still waiting for appointment. Dad wont talk about it at the moment or let me come and stay at weekends.

I suppose he needs to process it himself first.

I hope your mum gets her results back very soon.

Just seems like a waiting game. x

    I hope
