End of life

Hi all,

I've just joined mainly to ask if anyone else is experiencing this.

My dad was diagnosed with stage 4 stomach cancer which has spread to his brain. He refused to take the oral morphine, and was extremely agitated getting out of bed and falling.

He is having seizures so just over a week ago gp decided to insert the syringe driver.  The agitation has not stopped and is still trying to get out of bed and shouting even though the D/Nurse has upped the morphine and another drug to calm dad.

I expected he would be peaceful and not restless which is distressing for him but for us as a family too.   It's like hes fighting it.

  • hello

when my dad was nearing the end, he was very restless in his last week, he refused to take tablets or oral meds so they put in the driver at his request, then the day after he asked where is tablets were he was unaware about the driver, he kept trying to get out of bed, said i was trying to bump him off to anyone who would listen, but then had moments of clear clarity, ask the nurses if they can give him a small sedative... i used to just sit and agree with what ever dad said because in his own head he knew what he was saying but it was coming out as silly to me, that made it easier..

its hard sitting and waiting and watching a love one go through this process, my heart goes out to you and your family
