Fiancés mum has terminal cancer, can we get married?

My Fiance's mum has been diagnosed with terminal cancer. We have been engaged for a while but haven't got round to getting married. We would really like her to be there if at all possible but with the covid situation we're not sure if this is possible. Does anyone know if there is any way of actually getting married at the moment?

  • My understanding is that you can with a limited number of guests.  Why don't you call the registry office and ask them.  Good luck for the future.  Carol

  • I'm afraid only Northern Ireland are allowing people to marry at the moment, which i think is what Dor06 must have been thinking of. You cannot get married or register a civil partnership at the moment anywhere in England, Scotland or Wales. Some English councils have been granted emergency powers to allow weddings where one partner is ill but this doesn't extend to friends or relations, only the couple getting married.

Hopefully it won't be too much longer but sadly there isn't any way you can get married at the moment
