Final chemo to extend life?

My daughter in law has run out of options . Stage 4 breast cancer over 10 years treatments. They have been told"to prepare". She is going to try a drastic final chemo, which may not even extend life at all. What is this? She has a large liver met, it's in her bones, and lung. We are heartbroken. Her son is  10.

  • Hi abergirl,

Welcome to Cancer Chat. I'm so very sorry to read about your daughter in law. I can only imagine how incredibly hard this must be and it sounds like you've all been through a lot already.

I know there's not much I can really say to help other than that we're here on this forum for support if you need it at any point. Hopefully you also have others around you who you can speak to about this, including potentially any professionals such as Macmillan if you feel this would be helpful.

As I say, this forum is a safe space to write down any thoughts or worries at any point so do use it as much as you'd like.

    Wishing you all the best,

    Ben

  • Hello,

I know it's a long shot but are there any trials? Major cancer hospitals in England have them (not allowed to name but hopefully you know which I mean).

I'm so sorry if this is inapplicable. It's hard to know what go do, I imagine. I wish you all the very best. Sometimes chemo does not extend life but I know a few people who have led good, comfortable lives for some time when chemo and radiotherapy did not work.
