What to expect for terminal stomach cancer

Hi all,

My Mum (44 years old) was diagnosed with stomach cancer 6 months ago. After unsuccessful chemo, she was given 3-6 months to live 3 months ago. As of right now, she’s quite tired and in a lot of pain, and can’t eat solid food. However she’s still living at home and is still quite upbeat and positive.

I’ve been thinking a lot about the future, and I have no idea what’s going to happen. How does someone die from stomach cancer? What’s likely to happen?

Thank you you in advance for anyone that can help :)

  • Hello and welcome to the forum.
I'm so sorry to hear about your Mum's diagnosis. Undoubtedly this will have been a very difficult time for you all. I'm glad to hear that Mum is still at home and feeling upbeat and positive despite her symptoms.

We do have some information on our website here and here that you might find helpful to have a look through. I don't know if you have support for Mum at home at the moment but it's likely that this will be something that is put into place as Mum's condition changes. The nurses will be there to support Mum and you all as a family.

If you'd like to talk to one of our nurses for some advice and support you're welcome to call them. They are back in the office tomorrow available on 0808 800 4040 (Mon-Fri 9am to 5pm).

    Best wishes,
