Stage 4 Glioblastoma

Hi, my dad was diagnosed with stage 4 in December 2019, hes had surgery to remove some of the tumour and then had 6 weeks of radiotherapy.

Due to him having leukaemia twice that came with a bone marrow transplant they are choosing not to give him any form of chemo.

Does anyone know or have any ideas of how long the life expectancy is for this kind of scenario? His left side is currently not working at all, he is on steroids etc.

Any advice or comfort would be much appreciated.

  • Hello Tiger123,

I am sorry to hear about your dad's diagnosis and that he has not been able to have chemotherapy due to the bone marrow transplant he received when he had leukaemia. Your poor dad, having to face this after fighting leukaemia twice.

We have information on glioblastoma here and you can find general statistics on prognosis on this page but it's really hard to give any indication as to life expectancy as this will vary from one person to another. Perhaps the best person to talk to about this would be your dad's consultant who will be very much aware of your dad's situation as well as his medical history.

Don't hesitate also to give our nurses a call on this free number 0808 800 4040 if you feel the need to talk about his diagnosis as sometimes it can be a lot to take in - their line is open Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm.

I hope that you will also hear from others here who have had a similar diagnosis or looked after a loved one with Stage 4 Glioblastoma and that they will be along shortly to share their experience with you.

    Best wishes,
