Girlfriend's mum is about to die

Hello I'd just like any help from anyone who has advice on how to feel useful in my situation.

My girlfriend is french and we're currently locked down in her family home in France.

Her mother has lung cancer, and has recently taken a turn for the much worse. She can't communicate, she's just able to stare at you now.

She has her three kids, her brother, and her husband all there caring for her by her side.

But since I'm not part of the direct family I don't know if she really wants me there (because she might be embarrassed or understandably just want her nearest and desrest with her.)

So far Ive thought "if I'm invited to her room or asked to help, I will" and I of course do. But this isn't happening much, and now I'm worried it looks like I'm avoiding her or something.

The added issue is that I can't really sit and just chat to her at her bedside that comfortably either, as my french is good, but imI not comfortable and fluent, and finding the right words is hard enough in English.

Has anyone experienced this or someone like it? What little things can I do to show I care so much and my heart is breaking for the whole family?
