Friend with cancer - care package

Hi our friend who lives many miles from us has brain cancer and so had his partner. He has has radiotherapy and isn't doing well his speech isn't good his partner was given the all clear but we have had a call to say she has passed away we don't know what happened. He had appointment with his oncologist which my partner was going too but because of the situation at the moment could not attend due to his train being cancelled. Our friend said he had a telephone appointment and was told that there was nothing they could do for him. Would they put in a care package for him ? He has no family around him and is not making sense when we speak to him. We are extremely worried about.  What can we do, sorry if this is long winded but I don't know what to do.  Thank you

  • Hi Savill,

Welcome to Cancer Chat - although I'm very sorry to read about what's brought you here and the situation with your friends. This sounds like an incredibly tough situation. It's hard to be able to advise given he has had an appointment and it depends what was said during that, so I'm unsure about your question regarding a care package. Perhaps there would be a way you could call the hospital on your friend's behalf to try to find out more.

It may be best to call an organisation such as Macmillan for advice. You can find their details here.

Or we also have our nurses available on 0808 800 4040 - Monday-Friday, 9-5. It is possible they may be able to offer some advice.

I hope you're able to find out more soon.

    Wishing you all the best,

    Ben
