Cancer spread during chemo

My husband was diagnosed last April with Rectal cancer and on the day of his last chemo session, he's been told that cancer spread to the liver. He is only 37. He is so young and healthy. He has a job lining up for him after this last chemo session. We're done our house up and ready to move in. I am just devastating. Eventhough we have tried to be positive since his first diagnosis, this news sounds like the end of the world to us. Any advise on how you could stay positive and how to help your husband cope with this awful time?

  • Hi there, I know exactly how you feel as my husband was told 3 months ago his lung cancer has spread to his liver it hit me like a ton of bricks.  The only difference is that he is 74 now but it's still not easy to accept.  He is now having immunotherapy which targets the nodules specifically and is less arduous than chemo.  All we do is take each day as it comes and don't think ahead.  I hope he gets the support he needs from his oncologist.  Hugs from me,  Carol x

  • Hello ,

Awful news .. your partner is so young too.. it seems a lot of cancers target the liver. Breast, colon, lung, all seems to go straight for the liver. Horrible. I wish we could live minus our liver it'd make life better. Mum been diagnosed with bowel cancer but unfortunately again it's gone to her liver. When I first heard the word cancer about my mum my world ended too it's only been 2 weeks and mum is despondent and won't  talk about it to us. My husband and I are so sad and at a loss as what to do as the hospital won't let us see her. Such a sad month it's been I've hated March this year and with this virus around ️ My mums 72 but for her age she was always strong and healthy and seeing her with cancer hurts me so deeply I can imagine how bad you must be feeling for your partner. I hope he gets the best treatment he can from now on and beats this nasty beggar disease. You both keep safe and take care x

  • Hello kt91,

l am sorry to hear of your husbands diagnosis.l had cancer spread to my liver from the bowel and had 60% removed, six years later l am bouncing around,so anything is possible dependent on several factors.l hope you get news of a positive treatment and a way forward, and it is important to remember the only thing you can bring to the table is the healthiest body and mind possible unencumbered by stress and anxiety, to give yourselves the best chance of success in the struggle that lies ahead. It will not be easy, but then anything worth having never is.We are all blessed with an inner strength we never thought possible, the difference between us is ?,some are able to recognise that, find it, and use it to the best possible advantage. Its not a chest beating declaration of war,but a considered application of calm resolve. and focused energies. At 37 your husband should have the advantage of physical health,he needs to couple that with a calm mental strength going forward

                                                                                                 l wish you both well,
