End of life

Hi

can someone give me some advice

my 95 yo mum got diagnosed with lung cancer sept 2018 since then she has ups and down with her illness.she had a bad fall at beginning of January and has been bed ridden ever since

last week she was really breathless and getting weak and I called the dr who told me there was hardly any air getting in her lung

this week another dr was called and took her off the medication she no longer needed as now she sleeps most of the time and eats and drinks very little and is a bit confused

the doctor has signed the syringe driver book and said the nurse will be in to administer injections and told me she only has weeks as compared to days

im not sure what to expect over the next couple of weeks as in the next stage and I'm scared for my mum and how I will cope not knowing how to recognise when the end is near

  • Hi Tiredout,

I'm sorry to read how things are going at the moment. It's really the doctor who will be the best person to advise as to how things may go over the coming days and weeks as they're the person who is best informed and most involved in your mum's care. I would suggest you discuss this with them so you can get as much information as possible to help you prepare.

If you would like to discuss anything with our nurses, who may be able to offer some additional advice, you can reach them on 0808 800 4040 - Monday-Friday, 9-5.

It's cliched but try to take things one day at a time and look after yourself as well as your mum.

    Wishing you all the best,

    Ben
