Advise and help please!

Hi there,

My dad has recently been diagnosis with secondary bladder cancer, it has spread to his spine, bones, neck, lungs, liver, kidneys and multiple area in his stomach.

We are devestated at this news as back in 2011 he had a total bladder and prostate removal to remove the cancer.

My dad is really unsure whether to put himself through Chemo and he would like to know how long he has to live aprox if he decides not to have any treatment v if he has chemo.

Any help and advise with this will be greatly recieved.

Many thanks

  • Hello Bex12

I'm sorry to hear that your Dad has recently been given this news. I'm sure that it's a very difficult time for you all and it's understandable that your Dad would want to consider all options before making a decision about the offered treatment options.

Was your Dad given the contact details for a specialist nurse that he could contact? Someone directly involved with your Dad's care would be best placed to discuss his concerns but if you or your Dad would like to speak to one of our team of nurses for some advice then you're welcome to call them. They are available Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm on 0808 800 4040.

    Best wishes,

  • The best option is for your dad to have a hospital appointment to see a specialist.  They see 10s of different patients every day so will be able to a give a rough guide.

I would always opt for extending life but treatment may have horrid side effects that it would be better to concentrate on quality instead of quentity.
