Esophageal cancer, spread to liver and jaundiced

Hi all,

I am new to this forum but I am seeking help. My father in law was diagnosed 12 months ago with esophageal cancer which was in his stomach also. He had two rounds of unsuccessful chemo and has since ceased all treatment.

The cancer has since spread to his liver and further into his stomach. He has over the last few days become completely jaundiced and this is a major cause of concern when coupled with his swelling in his feet. To make things harder he is refusing help from any one other than his GP. Can you advise if we should be preparing for the end. He is sleeping more frequently and seems to be getting more and more confused. I am concerned that as he has no one visiting him daily we will not fully be aware of any deterioration.

Thank you for your help.

  • Hello Shali81
I'm sorry to hear that your Dad has been deteriorating over the past few days. Has he seen the GP since the jaundice and swelling worsened? If not then please do give them a call.
Understandably things are difficult for you all at the moment and I do hope that with the support of your Dad's GP that you're able to get some help in place for your Dad.

If you'd like to speak to one of our nurses then do give them a call on 0808 800 4040 (Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm).

    Best wishes,
