Terminal cancer

My dad has terminal cancer, treated successfully for lung cancer but it spread to the spine and brain. Been told nothing more they can do but don't know how long he has left. He has recently developed skin rash and swelling in legs, stomach and face- . Is this a bad sign he is getting closer to the end? Has anyone else experienced this? Thanks

  • Hello Beena,

I am really sorry to hear about your dad it must have come as a real shock to you to learn that it had spread to his spine and brain. We have some information on our website on advanced lung cancer which you can find here and which will hopefully be useful to you given that you haven't been told much so far.

If you are worried about this skin rash he has developped recently and the swelling in his legs stomach and face, it might be worth mentioning it to his doctor or specialist who will be able to tell you more about what this is a sign of and whether there is anything that can be prescribed to alleviate these symptoms.

I hope that you will hear from others on the forum who have been in a similar position. If you want to talk to our nurses at any point, you can ring them on this free number 0808 800 4040 - their line is open Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm.

Best wishes to you and your dad,
