Something to help end of life

I was wondering if anyone can help me think of things that would be useful for a good neighbour who is sadly in the last stages of cancer.  He now struggles to eat and has no sense of taste. On good days he can get to our house and converse for an hour.  What can we send over to him to help keep him comfortable and might be useful? I wanted to source possible foods or cushions/blankets but would be happy for any help or ideas.

  • What a kind heart you have.
I wonder if you have considered asking your neighbour what could assist them at this time....they might not be shy in telling you so perhaps that's worth a go.
My personal experience is: when one of my elderly relatives was poorly (not with cancer but moving towards end of life), she would love to eat soft desserts (angel delight, chocolate moose and triffle). Probs not the best thing for health but it was a good source of calories, easy to eat (no chewing) and easy to swallow. She seemed to get on well with sweet tasting things, complaining that she found other food bland/boring.
I'm sure your neighbour is grateful for your love, care and conversation xx

  • Thank you so much! He's a very strong minded man with a lovely family and I know they don't like to ask for help and we equally don't want to interfere but want to support (and I can sense his wife needs us as she pops over regularly) so I wanted to send real practical help in the form of foods (be it ice cream-his throat is like razors) or pillows and blankets but I'm not sure

  • hello

i gave dad my fluffy blanket when he was near the end of this life, he was too warm with a quilt and too cold with a cotton sheet, so i took it over for him and he just snuggled it, it was like a comfort blanket for a baby in the end, we even put it over him in his coffin :) your a good neighbour and im sure you are supporting his wife and family also, because i know caring for my dad was hard work but worth it but it was nice to get away and chat to someone.. even if they just made me a cuppa and had a chat it ment the world to me x
