No good days ovarian cancer

Hi,

I need to rant. My mother in law began feeling poorly in April. She developed ascites and after much messing about and wrong guess working diagnoses, she finally got told it was ovarian cancer that started in the peritoneal area and spread to the ovary. Chemo, 3 sepsis, pneumonia and a failed 6 hour surgery later and she is 5 stone lighter and vacant, since this started she has had no good days, days where she felt able to do things. She was very very active before the ascities. She has very low white blood cells. She's on 1/3 dose chemo and if she gets a bit better, theyll start her on avistan. I cant see that happening since her white blood cells are remaining so low, she keeps getting infection from something somewhere.

I'm ranting because we don't know what's next.

No surgery as she was all sticky inside? Inoperable

Full dose chemo didnt work

Low dose is still making her floored, hospitalized.

Avistan sounds horrific and shes not able to have it yet.

We know it's around the bowel, ovary, pelvis, peritoneal area and bottom of the stomach. Last full scan was Sept though.

Does anyone have any insight on time, avistan and ovarian cancer?

In March she was fit, healthy and working full time. Now, frail, extremely tired, vacant, thin, so poorly and in pain.

Horrid horrid cruel disease :(

  • Hello Pandoradistribution,

I am so sorry to hear about your mother in law poor her it sounds really awful and it must be so hard for you to see her like this when she used to be so active.

We have information on our website on ovarian cancer which you can find here and which I hope will be useful to you. More specifically you can read more about Avastin on this page and hopefully others who have been on this drug will come and share their experience with you.

Our cancer nurses are also available on this free number 0808 800 4040 - their helpline is open Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm (but closed on 1st of January) so don't hesitate to give them a call if you want to talk through all this with them.

I hope that you will soon hear from some of our other members who have been affected by ovarian cancer and that they will be along shortly to share their story with you.

This must be such a difficult time for you, your mum in law and your family. We're all here for you anytime you feel the need to talk or offload as there are so many members of this forum who understand exactly what you are going through at the moment.

    Best wishes,
