Bladder & bowel cancer

Hello all,

We were told that my nan had bladder cancer in June and she had an operation to remove this, but it was also causing her kidney to become blocked. Following more tests, the doctors had told us that the cancer had spread further into the muscle and she would need an operation to remove her bladder, uterus and ovaries.

Around 8 weeks ago, she started to become very unwell with sickness and was taken into hospital. Many scans were completed and her stomach was drained with medics staff stating that all was well. She came in and out of hospital a couple more times until she was finally admitted for the last time over a month ago.

They had since told her that she had a blockage in her bowel and had emergency surgery to remove this and give her a stoma bag. She has done well with this however we were given the news that the cancer had spread throughout her bowel and was extremely aggressive and therefore terminal. Since then she has begun to become sick again but we still have no prognosis or time span.

Has anyone ever come across this situation beforehand and how long were your loved ones given following diagnosis?

  • Hi Ejb and welcome to the Cancer Chat forum.

I'm very sorry to read that your nan's cancer is now terminal. This must be a very difficult time for you all. I really do hope her medical team are able to give you some sort of time frame soon but I'm sure some of our members who have been in a similar situation will pop by when they can to share their experiences with you.

Our cancer nurses are available for a chat on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m if you'd like to discuss this with them as well.

    Kind regards,
