My mum has Non Small Cell Lung Cancer

My mum is 75 years old and was diagnosed with Non Small Cell Lung Cancer in March 2019.  She was given 12 treatments of Radium therapy which drained her.  Six weeks after the initial treatment it metastasised to her hip then Sacrum, she gad further two Radium treatments to the hip and Sacrum which had no effect or benefit.  It is now in three areas of her spine, she has an enlarged Adrenal gland and 10cm Cistic mass on her Gall bladder, low sodium levels SIADH which they say is a consequence of the lung Cancer.  Following my mum spending twelve weeks in Hospital recently, she is now palliative care at home and extremely unwell.

I have requested a Consultaion with her Oncologist as i need clarification of why the decision was taken for Radium therapy as he said he may consider Chemo further down the line however they waited till my mum was too unwell then it could not be considered as an option.

I cant believe that we are in the 20th Century and there us no definitive cure for Cancer and people are suffering in this way.  The pain of watching my mum rapidly deteriorate is unbearable.  I keep thinking that even at this stage there must still be something that could eradicate the Cancer.

  • Thank you somuch for your response.  Unfortunately my precious mum passed on19/11/19.  Although my heart is broken that she is gone, she passed peacefully at home with her family around her.

The District nurses were a tower of strength for my mum and the family and we are so grrateful to them.

I did meet with the Oncologist which helped me to understand my mums condition and thr decisions taken by the multi agency team.  But that doesent make the loss any easier.
