Stage 4 metastasis cancer

hi

my grandad has being diagnosed with stage 4 advanced prostate cancer which has now spread to his surrounding bones (spine, hip bones and surrounding joints) and his lymph nodes.

My gran doesn’t seem to want to know anything about it and my grandad won’t have chemo as he would rather not have the treatment, there’s nothing they can do other than hormone tablets which he has once a month. I wondered what anyone thinks his prognosis might be as the doctors don’t seem to be giving us an indication or maybe they have to him and he’s not told us. I’m finding it very hard to get on with normal everyday tasks with the not knowing.

many thanks in advance I’d like to hear other families stories on how they deal with this

  • Hi Rachel I've been stage 4 prostate cancer which is on lymph nodes, spine, ribs, pelvis and a lung it was found in Feb 2016 I've been on hormone therapy since and had six sessions of cemotheropy that year I've been living a normal life, I'm now, 67 years old,, it helps to have psa and gleason score as well, my psa was 1581 gleason 8 at last Xmas my psa was 0.08,,i was working till Xmas but had to retire to look after my disabled wife she needs 24 /7 care,, good luck.. Billy

  • Thankyou for your response

Thankyou so much to take the time and reply to me you are remarkable, my grandfather is now 82 and he isn’t having an chemo his Psa was 435 I’m not sure about his Gleason score he’s very private and won’t speak about it so I’m trying to get any info from others stories, Thankyou so much you’ve given me some hope. I hope all goes well with your treatments and wife.

    many thanks

  • The only reason i had cemo was it goes all over the body makes sure to fight the cancer wherever it is, don't think i mentioned its uncurable i just have to live with my uninvited guest, as psa rises i have more cemo to take it down again hopefully for a long time.... Billy

P.s i put this to show you can live with it, when neaded
