Pembrolizumab Immunotherapy

My mum was diagnosed with non small cell lung cancer  in April 19, she has had 4 rounds of chemo and after a 4 week break has started Pembrolizumab immunotherapy today. Does anyone have any experience of this immunotherapy? How long before it may show some stability in the cancer?

In the 4 weeks break she has become so weak, on perminant oxygen, swollen hands and legs and loss of appetite. All of which the consultant and nurses are aware of but I can’t see her lasting until the immunotherapy does something to help and we have been told it gets worse before it gets better!

Will the hospital tell us when it is the end or will it just happen?

Sorry for such an essay,

  • Hi Bud83,

I was sorry to read about Mum's news. I'm sure that it's been a difficult time for you all.

We do have some information on our website about Pembrolizumab  which you may find helpful. Some of the things you've mentioned that Mum is dealing with are listed as side effects of the treatment that she is undergoing.

You might find it useful to have a chat with one of our team of nurses. I'm sure that they'll be able to offer some support and advice. You can call them on 0808 800 4040 (Monday to Friday 9am tom 5pm).

    Best wishes,
