Terminal lung cancer

Hi,

I’m just looking for a little bit of advice on how to cope and get my head around my mums cancer diagnosis.

My mum was diagnosed October of last year and since then it’s been a bit of a whirlwind. It’s only myself, my dad and my mum in our tiny family.

So my mum has been diagnosed with metastatic lung cancer, with spread to multiple areas, which she was given chemotherapy for, which then unfortunately resulted in sepsis so she was taken off this. She is now on Immunotherapy, and upon reading about this, it seems to have a very high success rate. My mum has been given one scan so far, which has showed areas of shrinkage, and she is due another one a week on Monday, which will hopefully show more positive results. I guess what I’m asking really is if anyone else has gone through a similar thing and what the outcomes were and time frames? My mum was initially given a document with a time frame on, but refused to look at it and did not wish myself or my dad to see, which I totally understand- I guess it’s just been playing on my mind ever since. I also understand that each person is different and what is said to some is different for others.

My mum has also been dealing with a terrible wheeze in her chest, but the consultant seems to be ignoring this, even though my mum has been unable to sleep. She is unable to walk a great distance without stopping, which I understand, but I guess I just don’t understand why there’s not more they can do along with the immunotherapy. I do work in healthcare and understand that there can be issues with steroids if given when undergoing immunotherapy, but has anyone heard of anything, apart from CBD oil that is helpful?

It may sound selfish, but I’m getting married next year and I really want my mum to be there. We’ve never had the most amazing relationship, but somehow this has brought us closer together.

We've noticed changes since the last scan and I’m just looking for some reassurance/ words of wisdom!

Thanks so much!

  • Hi sylver i don't know if it helps I've had metastatic bony metastases and prostate adenocarcinoma for nearly three years now as you can guess it's non curable, i know it's not lungs but it should still be treatable, I've got it other places as well, luckily cemo worked for me hopefully your mums treatment will work for her. Best wishes. Billy
