Stage 4 lung cancer

Hi everyone,  my Dad has recently been diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer. He has already beaten hodgkin's disease 20 years ago and throat cancer 5 years ago. Despite the prognosis (untreatable) I'm struggling to believe that this is inevitable. Any practical advice greatly received xxx

  • The only thing I can say, with the deepest of sympathy and support for you, is that you should do everything in your power to give him a memorable, loving and enriching time from here on in. Having been in your position 3 times, it’s a difficult one. It’s a dreadful diagnosis and ultimately means there is only the ‘making memories’ left.

  • hello,

my dad also got the same diagnosis in May of stage 4 lung cancer. Have they offered your dad chemotherapy to try and maintain the cancer? My dads just finished his first round. An this consists of alternating chest scans every three weeks. Radiotherapy to ease the pain has also been offered as one of the areas my dads has spread to is his vertebrae.

With my dad I try not to treat him any differently although his energy levels have decreased and his oxygen levels are lower we do everything at his pace. I would advise to spend as much quality time together as you can. Macmillan have also been a great support to both my dad and the family.
