When will I know she is dying?

Hi all, my mum has stage 4 breast cancer, we are 2 yrs post diagnosis, she also has COPD whsuch has resulted in chronic respiratory failure. She us now in hospital and hasn't eaten or drank other than a piece of toast and cup of tea since yesterday morning. To me she is pale and I felt she was cool/clammy to the touch earlier. I feel like this could be it but can't seem to get a straight answer about whether it is or not. We have had 7 hospital admissions in as many months and several close calls. We also have DNR, DNI in place.

My heart is breaking at the thought of losing her but she is in pain and really struggling to breathe. I feel she is suffering horrendously and it feels like we are prolonging death, not life at this stage.

  • I'm so sorry about your mum Kerrie. I can't begin to imagine how difficult this must be but I want you to know that the Cancer Chat community are here for you and I'm sure those who have been by their loved ones side during the latter stages will share their experiences with you soon.

In the meantime I wanted to share a section we have on our website about what to look out for in the final weeks and days which I hope will prove useful at this time.

    Kind regards,
