Mum’s last few weeks

my dear mum (76) who was diagnosed with terminal cancer three years ago has beaten the odds of the tentative prognosis given in those early days. 

She now has just a few weeks left and I am adapting and trying to get ready to gentle surrender her to death and me to that fact. 

I am keen to stay in touch with others going through the same. To share the ups and downs of this final chapter.

    So sorry to hear your mum has only a few weeks left now it must be really hard for you and those around her at the moment. 

    You've come to the right place though to talk to others who are also going through this difficult time at the moment. I thought I would share with you this thread by [@xShorex]‍ who will understand how you are feeling. I hope you will hear from some of our members currently going through the same painful experience so that you don't feel alone.

    Hi there, I am in exactly the same place as you hun so know how painful this is for youmy mum is almost 75 and only diagnosed around Mother’s Day - it’s all happened so fast - I have a photo of her at my eldest sons 21st at Xmas - only 5 months ago and she looks fine. It started with shoulder ache, bad stomach which the GP insisted was gastritis then the breathlessness started - so we requested a scan - then that was it - lungs full of fluid shadows on the lungs - then over the following days we were told it’s spread to liver & bones..my world has fallen apart I can’t begin to tell youwe live next door to her & we are slowly watching her deteriorate- actually it’s not slowly as every day she seems frailer and now not really eating in the last week - we dint know how long but we are trying to remain strong for her and my best advice would be to take each day as it comes and treasure her as best as you can a we are , big hugs to you we need all the support we can get - have you got any close family to help you through hun?

    Hi, I understand this is very hard for your right now whilst my mother isn’t going through the same cancer mine is also dying unfortunately to cancer just know you’re not alone and it’s always nice to talk to others for reassurance and support! :)

    Hi Egg,

    I'm Rachel, I'm 35 and I live in London. My Mum, who was previously really heathy and fit, was suddenly diagnosed with cancer of unknown primary in December. By Feb they figured out it was Primary Liver, which is weird because she has no risk factors for that, bad luck I guess. By the time she was put on Lenvatinib she was very poorly. She seemed to be doing well on it and have more energy and few side effects. Unfortunately it only worked for maybe a month, 6 weeks, and she was taken off it 2 months after she started it after there was evidence from multiple blood tests and another ct scan that it was no longer holding back the cancer. We were offered chemo (which doesn't generally work for hcc) but 3 days before she was due to begin it, she was hospitalised with an infection. 2 weeks later she still had the infection and also fluid buildup in her lungs and abdomen. She was given terminal status 10 days ago and came home from the hospital on Wednesday and off all treatment to die at home. I had a strong inkling she would be terminal when I realised they weren't able to operate but she wanted to be ignorant and hopeful so I didn't interfere with that. Even so, I thought she'd have more time and it's a big shock. So far she’s been more settled at home but hasn’t really got worse since the terminal diagnosis. Me and my sister have put our lives on hold to care for her until she dies, the hospital thought days not weeks but can’t be certain. At the moment we’re inviting one friend a day to visit and say goodbye.
