Advanced sarcoma

Hi all, my mum has had cancer for 8 years! She had a large rumour removed from her thigh and did really well for a couple of years, she was then told her sarcoma had spread to other parts of her body, behind her liver, stomach and neck! Over the years she has had every type of chemo going as well as radio therapy, more recently having Trabectedin, however after 30 cycles of this it has stopped working and she has developed a tumour on the back of her neck and other areas! She has been told there is nothing else they can do she has suffered so much already and I’m worried that she’s going to die in pain! She has already lasted much longer than expected but when you get told devasting news that your dying im worried she’s going to give up! We have no outside support as mum doesn’t want any, I just want to know how long people usually survive after Trabectedin stops working?

  • Hello garden2018,

    Welcome to Cancer Chat.

I'm sorry to hear about your mum

It's hard to answer how her sarcoma will progress, so it's best to stay in close contact with her medical team so you can get a better idea of what to expect. While Trabectedin no longer works for her, we have some information here that might make her more comfortable if she suffers from side effects. Although she may not want help, it's still worth considering the options that could suit her needs. Again, her medical team will have the best advice but we have a list of support available here, hopefully something could be found in your area.

Our team of nurses are also available should you need someone to talk to. You can call them for free on 0808 800 4040. Lines are open from Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm.

    Wishing you all the best,
