It's now terminal

Hi everyone

My Mum has bladder cancer which has spread in to the pelvis and treatment is no longer an option, her cancer is terminal.

We are yet to find out more information regarding the diagnosis, such as the timescale, so I just  wondered if anyone knows how quickly this will take hold, spread further etc.

You may think it strange that I'm in a forum trying to find out such sensitive information but I can't bear this limbo. I need to know what I'm dealing with, how quickly I need to miraculously find some serious strength to support her through this.

Her details have been passed to the community nurses and they will be contacting her at some stage but again, we don't know when.

I spoke to my Mum today and she said she doesn't know what's going on, hopefully the nurses will tell her how long she has left when they visit her. Then she said "I could be living like this for a couple of years" I'm guessing this is highly unlikely?

Has anyone had any experience of this? I know everyone is different and I'm not expecting someone to give me concrete dates but does anyone know if I'm looking at weeks or months?

Thanks in advance

  • Welcome to Cancer Chat Bears although I'm sorry to read that your mum's diagnosis is now terminal.

As you said in your post, your mum's nurses should be able to tell her more on their next visit but as you're not sure when this will be I thought I would share some information we have about advanced bladder cancer on our website. You may want to join in on this conversation as well.

If you have any further questions or would just like to chat with someone about your mum's situation then do give our cancer nurses a call. You can contact them on 0808 800 4040 between 9a.m - 5p.m from Tuesday onwards (closed on Monday due to the bank holiday).

I hope this helps Bears and I wish you and your mum all the best on this part of her cancer journey.

    Kind regards,
