End of life

I believe my step father is approaching end of life, he is currently on a morphine drip but has today been given something else to make him more comfortable.  We have been advised that it will make him more sleepy but less confused.

His eyes look really glazed.

Can anyone tell me what we can expect now ?

Feeling totally useless currently

  • Hi I don't know if its true but people say that the last thing to go is hearing so sit with him talk to him. The good times the funny things. Good luck and best wishes.

  • Hi Vegaa122,

Welcome to the forum, very sorry to read your post about your step father. Agree with Billygoat, as you are probably doing, hold his hand, I said to my mum its ok, its ok, I'll see you again, couldn't say the word goodbye. Not sure if your step father is at home or hospital, my mum was at home and we had district nurses come in and they gave us a time-frame, hard as that question is to ask. The nurses will make sure he's in no discomfort. My mum believed in God so I read some passages from the bible, I hope it gave her some comfort.

Sometimes the breathing becomes more laboured but everyone is different, the nurses should guide you on what to expect. Thinking of you at this difficult time and hoping if end of life is near, it is a peaceful passing.

Don't feel useless, I understand some of how that feels, but you're not, you're a loving daughter.

    Take care
