Advanced prostrate cancer

Hi this is my first time on this website. My dad was diagnosed with prostrate cancer 8 years ago, he is nearly 82 (5 April) It has since got into his pelvic area and coccyx. He has been hospitalised for 4 weeks now with the pain he has been experiencing in his lower back and, a tumour that has occurred in his femur (he broke his leg 40yrs ago)We have now learned that the cancer has spread into his chest. My brother and myself have a consultation in the morning with his consultant. What I would like advice on is how to talk to my father about his illness. He will be discharged from hospital shortly, a hospital bed is being delivered to his home, I love him dearly and finding it hard to cope. My mum has just gone 82 and is pratically immobile and misses him so much. Any advice how to make my dad comfortable, ie albeit narrative, alternative medicine, just to make him comfortable. Thank you.

  • Welcome to Cancer Chat Lvine although I'm sorry to read that your dad's cancer has spread.

How did you get on at your appointment with your dad's consultant the other day? I hope you were able to get your questions answered and some advice on how to speak with your dad about his illness but if not, I'm sure some of our members who have been in a similar situation with their loved ones will be along soon to offer their support and advice.

We hae some information on our website which I hope will prove useful at this time but you're more than welcome to give our cancer nurses a call if you'd like to have a chat with them about your dad's situation as well. They are available Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m on 0808 800 4040.

    Kind regards,
