Life expectancy?

Mum (age 85) was diagnosed with breast cancer 31st December It has spread to bones, behind her eye and possibly her liver Her deterioration has been rapid and she will be going onto a morphine drip today plus she now needs 24 hour care She is not eating and hasnt for weeks We have been advised her body is shutting down. I know it is difficult for medical profession to give estimated time left but we are being told nothing What should we be expecting in reality now? a week? a month? I always promised her I would care for her if this situation arose, if its probably a short time I can manage with help of another family member but if it will be months rather than weeks I will need to look at additional help Any advice welcome

  • Hi Carol ...

So so sorry your going through this heartbraking time... but I've found since being on here, Marie Currie give both practical help and emotional help to those with a terminal diagnosis and their carers ...

If you go on their home page, it gives lots of information ... and a number to call ... I've heard they are wonderfull .. let me know how it goes as it helps me when giving advice ...
