Is there any hope?

My mum has been diagnosed with stage 4 extensive lung cancer which has speared nearly everywhere but the brain.. all I really read is the story's of people who have had this and unfortunely has took there life's.. I just can't see that happening too my mum as she looks so fit and well except shortness of breath really. I'm just wondering if there is anyone who is willing too tel me if they know anyone who has beat this illness

  • Hello Mumiloveyou; so sorry about your mum.  I don't know anyone who has beaten lung cancer as such but a cousin of my mum who is now in her early eighties has had Stage 4 lung cancer for well over a year now.  Actually she has had lung cancer for longer than that and it was when we met up over a year ago she told me that she had been told that this was Stage 4 some months earlier.  She was reasonably fit then and came to family gatherings.  She is finding things more difficult now but still gets out and about.  I hasten to add that this is by no means the case with all Stage 4 cancer patients and I have known other friends who have sadly not survived for anything like this time.  But just thought I would tell you that it can vary.  Annie

  • Thankyou my mums is 52 and it's just a massive shock, can I ask how long as it been since your mums cousin got diagnosed with stage 4? Thankyou

  • If I am honest I don't know exactly; we live 300 miles apart and meet up about once a year plus whenever there is a reason for a family gathering.     I am guessing around 14-16 months.  As there is no way of knowing how your mum's illness will proceed I would recommend making the most of all the time you have now a taking any extra time as a blessing.   Feel free to keep in touch at any time.  Annie

  • Thankyou very much for having the time too reply means a lot thankyou
