Stage 4 bowel cancer..all hope shattered today

My friend was diagnosed with bowel cancer in Feb. It was then found to have spread to her liver. Advanced stage 4. After surgery she began chemo and every appointment was positive. Even talk of operating on her liver because it had responded so well to chemo. She suddenly became very unwell sickness and upset belly and was admitted to hospital. She has been there 4 wks and they have now found tumours on her spleen..intestines and stomach lining and have said she is now terminal. No more can be done. Prognosis is a few wks to a couple of months. She has had regular mri and ct scans everyone was clear. So for this all to happen in 4weeks is complelty destroying. They are trying to move her to a hospice as struggling to manage her pain. What do we do? How do we care for her? She has given up and just wants to go to sleep and never wake up. She is only 41yrs old...what practical things should I be doing for her? How do you support someone who has no hope? I'm sorry I've rambled I just don't know what to do!!
  • Hello! Unfortunately I went through exactly this with my grandma this year, she was found to have terminal bowel cancer after being admitted in hospital with a UTI infection which became into sepsis. It spread to her liver, lung and sadly everywhere via her CT scan. My grandma also had a stroke as well, sadly like yourself the news hasn't hit me well at all and I'm having panic attacks as she sadly passed away last month. Cancer is a cruel disease, it's very very cruel. You need to make her comfortable and as happy as possible lovely and be there for her until the end comes. My grandma sadly passed away in hospital before she could be admitted into a hospice, you need to take each day as it comes and support your friend in every way possible. It isn't easy but take each day as it comes. It's going to be very hard but be there for her and I'm sure she'll appreciate it to the very end. My grandma did, even though she wasn't conscious. I'm sure she would have. Be there and share fond memories of the time you have together. All the love
