End of life with Glioblastoma stage 4

My dad is a 53 year old, diagnosed with Glioblastoma in May 2017. He received radiotherapy and then chemotherapy which all treatment was stopped in February as nothing was doing anything for his tumour at all. He wasn’t able to be operated on as the tumour was so deep into his brain. He also had many other little “satelite” tumours over his brain caused by the GBM.

He was told that he would have 1-2 years life expectancy and he has good days and bad days. Currently, he is in hospital for severe abdo pain caused by constipation but it is more of a blockage in his Intestine.

My dad is bed bound now and has been since February and also paralysed down his left side.

My question really is, what can I expect to happen at the end?

  • I just love this keep fighting and keep them smiles goin xx

  • Hi everyone, we are currently going through this with mum she has glioblastoma- had operation which they removed around 90% but hasn’t had the best recovery meaning her cancer treatment was delayed and she is tomorrow starting 6 weeks radiotherapy. We are all struggling knowing if having the treatment is the best thing due to all the possible side effects as mum has just got all her strength back after a gruelling 10 week recovery to then start treatment and maybe go back to square 1 what was your experiences with the radiotherapy? Do you feelit was the best decision for your loved ones? Or in hindsight would you rather have not put them through that? Thanks for reading, Carly xx

  • Hi Carly, My dad had intensive radiotherapy everyday for 6 weeks. He was perfectly fine :) the only real side effect he had was a bit of tiredness. He also had the chemo tablets. which again, he was fine from. My dad was a fit and healthy 52 year old. We only got 12 months with him from diagnoses, but we were told if he didn’t have that radio and chemo we wouldn’t have had that long. Thankfully he went through with it and he Got to enjoy a final holiday to Madeira and lots of family time -

until he was taken from us :(

my thoughts are with you at this dreadfully difficult time. It’s so unfair. My dad would have been 53 this Friday. I still cannot get my head around it all Xxx

  • Hi, thank you for your reply. This has made me feel

much better about it ... we do want to fight this as much as we possibly can but also want mum having the best quality of life. She’s only 62 and it’s been such a whirlwind from her diagnosis end of April til now. She will hopefully have chemo tablets after radiotherapy but the oncologist don’t think she is quite strong enough for both radiotherapy and chemo combined as was the initial plan which is a little disappointing but they know best. I’m so sorry for your loss .. it’s so cruel this has to happen so young my mum has so much to live for 3 daughters 7 grandchildren and lots of friends and family just don’t understand why this has to happen but we are dealing best we can day by day. X

  • Keep strong and spend as much time as you can together, sending all my love xxxx

  • Thank you xxx
