Swollen legs with terminal diagnosis

I mentioned before my dad is terminal. He has no kidneys and has liver and lung cancer and lukemia. The last couple days he is sleeping loads, he even fell asleep mid conversation when we were out for dinner. And his legs are very swollen.

I'm basically wandering are these possible signs that it's the start of end of life? Not sure if anyone can help but thought I'd try. Thanks

  • Hello Jenrose,

I'm sorry to hear about your dad's situation.

As you asked what are the possible signs of the end of life I thought about a page from our website with information about the last few weeks and days which I hope will help a little.

Also, feel free to phone our cancer nurses if you think asking someone medically trained for advice might help, their lines are open Monday - Friday between 9 a.m - 5 p.m on 0808 800 4040.

Best wishes to you and your dad.

  • Hi Jenrose, swollen legs can be due to range of things .. lack of mobility, tumours pressing on lympathic system, steroids ... In my experience with my beloved husband it was an end of life thing .. about 6 weeks. Surgical stockings and massage with lavender oils helped the discomfort as did coming off steroids and moving around more xx hope this helps. X
