My Father has Peritoneal cancer

He had Bowel Cancer had an operation and got the all clear.

1 year later we are told he is Terminal with Peritoneal cancer. Chemo has been withdrawn as 2 bad reactions he had. He has recently had Sepsis but got over that thankfully. He is using Hemp Oil. Now my sister's want him to try the Keto Diet is this going to help my father in any way? Or can anyone offer any advice as I'm finding it difficult to understand as I suffer with Autism.

I thank you for your support and time.

Kind regards Antz.

  • Just want to say hi  ... And l know the world can be a bit complicated with autism and things can be harder to understand ...  It so sad when we get the terminal diagnosis ... And sometimes want to reach out for anything that may help ... I don't think they can cure but it may help pain and give the mind something else to think about ... But has he been offered any more treatment ...

Try to live in the day and make as many memories as you can with him ... You can help your dad through although it will be hard ... And there are some on here living longer then the time they were given ... As no one knows if they can hold on longer or need to let go ...

Hope that helps a little ... Take care .... Chrissie x

  • Thank you very much for your support and understanding and advice.

    Kind regards Antz

  • Hello Antz and welcome to our forum.

I'm sorry to hear about your father, it's only natural that you are worried and looking for solutions that might help him.

We recommend discussing any alternative therapies with a GP or medical team first as it could potentially interfere with other cancer treatments given to your father, and can carry other side effects and risks.

There is more information on our website about complementary and alternative therapies which I'm linking to this message and I hope you will find useful to read.

  • Hello Antz and thanks for your post

I was sorry to learn about your father. This must be a difficult time for the whole family.

You asked about the ketogenic ( keto) diet. This diet is a very low carbohydrate, high fat diet. It has been shown to help with children with epilepsy that is hard to control.

We would always recommend that people try to have a balanced diet when possible. There is no scientific evidence that a high protein low carbohydrate diet has an effect on cancer and you can read more about this at this link.

If your father is thinking of making any changes to his diet, it's important that he checks this out with his doctor. They will be able to give him more information and let him know what impact, if any, it would have on him.

    I hope this helps.

    Kind regards,

    Celene
