Last stage

dear all

I don’t know if anyone can help.

We had a call early hours on Sunday morning at about 01.00 from hospital saying that my husbands Aunty has only hours to go.

She is dying of Vaginal Cancer.

Up till now my Hisband and his aunty son are still by her side without hardly any sleep.

My husband was saying her tips of toes aand finger tips are starting to go grey. Her heart still appears to be steady but slower but not a huge drop. She is on morphine and I don’t know what other meds.

The death rattle is staring now too so I was just wondering how much longer these two men have to endure this painful experience

Any advice is greatly appreciated

  • Hello Petra; so sorry to learn about your husband's aunt who is losing her battle with vaginal cancer.  I am enclosing some information from this website about the final days of life.  It is not always the same for everyone; people can hang on unexpectedly and symptoms don't always follow the chronological information on the attached document.

Don't forget that someone dying is still thought to be able to hear what you are saying in their vicinity even though they cannot respond.  As well as giving them words of love and encouragement it is important not to say anything you would prefer them not to hear.

My best wishes to you and your husband's family.  Annie
