chemo or radium 223?

I am about to choose between radium or docetaxel for treatment of advanced prostate cancer which is best and which has the least side effects

  • Hi Rifleman,

    Welcome to the forum!

I've no idea about the answer to your question, but hopefully someone with the same cancer type will be able to give an informed response.

    Good luck

    Dave

  • Welcome to Cancer Chat rifleman.

I just wanted to stop by to let you know we have a section on our website dedicated to treatment for advanced prostate cancer which I think may be useful to you at this time. To find out more just click here

We also had a discussion on the forum a few years ago where a member detailed their experience with radium 223 which I have included here for you to have a look at as well.

I hope you find these links useful but if you do have any further questions or would just like a chat with someone about your treatment options do give our cancer nurses a call next week. They're available Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m on 0808 800 4040 (freephone).

    Kind regards,

  • Hi

I have no idea about radium, but doxcetaxel, I have I had six treatments of this and side effects can vary with each individual, I can only tell you of mine.

Hair loss, fatigue and tiredness, loss of taste, some diahorrea, scratchy or slightly blurred eyes, tingly fingers and feet ( like pins and needles but not as harsh ) bone pain but that does get better, and you have to be very carefull as your red blood cells are low and your open to infection.

    Hope this helps
