Need advice/information

Hi All, I was just after some guidance and advice. My poor lovely mum was diagnosed following a seizure 2 weeks today with multiple brain, lung and spleen mets after being "free" following lung cancer radiotherapy treatment about 18 months ago. They have said she is now only for palliative treatment and we have "short weeks" . I would like to be as informed as possible as I am their only child and they don't want to know anything I'm the one having all the discussion with the Dr's at my mums request. Firstly does anyone have a rough guide to what time scale "short weeks" refers too? Mum had deteriorated in two weeks going from independent and mobile to assisted/ lifted from bed to chair and needing assistance with all personal care. On steroids so eating 1-2 small sandwiches and jelly per day and her speech is slurring and she is getting muddled now and again! Seems to have happened quickly. Does anyone have any experience or knowledge around this and how quickly or not she is likely to deteriorate?

thanks for any info

  • Welcome to the forum Cl although I'm sorry to hear about your mum's situation and the reason you are posting.

Many members on the forum have been in this position with their parents and loved ones and hopefully they will reply soon to share their experiences and advice but I have included some information from our website about dying with cancer that may help too. Some have found this a tough read so do only have a look if you feel you are ready. You can give our cancer nurses a call about this as well. Their number is 0808 800 4040, which is free from a UK landline and are available Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m

    Kind regards,
