liver cancer

My step mother has just been diagnosed with liver cancer in its secodary stages. Her liver has multiple tumours. She has no appetite, in a great deal of discomfort (as she puts it )..... We are just waiting for some test results to see what stage the cancer is.

I feel helpless as I don't know what to say or do.

I would be grateful for any advice

Thank you

  • My dad was diagnosed with liver cancer last December he had no symptoms to start with then he got a dull ache in his side and a ct scan revealed liver mass then biopsy resulted stage 4 liver cancer,2 months later he turned jaundice and his liver n kidneys started shutting down ,they put a stent in his liver and told us my dad had only 2 weeks left but although my dad was in hospital for a month and got home for a week then placed on a hospice and took an infection in his legs,he is still fighting he has no appetite, but he kept positive every day and stayed determined and didn't give into the cancer my dad is still here fighting.i know this is a horrible disease but you need to keep positive and be there for your step mum I know it's hard,I stayed with my dad for 5 days he didn't want to be alone at night but having family around will keep your step mum strong x

  • Thank you so much for the advice.

It's horrible seeing someone so active and full of life go downhill so quicky in front of your eyes and theres not a dam thing you can do.......My step mum is 79 and feels she has no quality of life because of an on going problem with her spine.

It's just nice having someone to talk to (if that is the right word) who will be honest .

I hope your dad is comfortable

    Thank you

  • Hi Yvonee,

i just read your post and it has made me very anxious, I am paranoid about getting cancer to the point it is controlling my life; silly I know. My dad died of Kidney cancer a few years ago. I have been getting s full ache on my right side for a few weeks and of course have been googling and am now really worried it could be sliver cancer. Did you dad have any other symptoms?

    thsnk you

    Jsvkk x

  • Hi jsvkk, my dad didn’t have any symptoms apart from the dull ache in his side,my dad passed away nearly 2 years ago it will be the anniversary of his passing this Sunday 30th June , no warning about the cancer,so I would say to you go nd get it checked out asap, let me know how you get on xxx

  • Hi Yvonne,

thankyou for responding. I have had loads of checks over the last couple of years; including a liver function test and all was clear but this pain is a new one, I am going next Thursday for a full MOT! They are doing another liver function test. I just worry they miss something.

So sorry to hear about your dad, it’s hard to cope with.

    But time does help

  • Hi again Yvonne,

I went to the doctors yesterday and had a long discussion about pain etc. The pain in my side is getting worse but the doctor tried to reassure me but has referred me for blood tests and a scan but I have to wait a couple of weeks. Unfortunately she looked st my past results and in January I apparently had an abnormal LFT that wasn’t followed up. She did say it was only very slightly high but even so, I am surprised it didn’t get chased up. I think there is something very wrong with me. My stomach is swollen slightly and I sm so so worried.
