Grandma with bowel cancer

My grandma was diagnosed with bowel cancer sometime last xmas(we didn't know and she didn't want us to know) however when we did find out we discovered from her gp she had six months at most and this was at the beginning of August. She has deterioted  a lot and fell down the stairs on Boxing Day as she thought her stair lift was at the bottom. This has resulted in a fractured pelvis a bleed on her brain and lung. What's worrying me most is the absolute confusion she has which has steadily got worse over the last week. Today in the hospital she thought we were other people and has no concept of time. Is this related to the cancer as we have no joy from the junior doctors that are around as every day I see her this seems to be getting worse, the doctors think the bleeds are from the fall and the confusion started before this

  • Welcome to the forum Lexiloo.

I'm really sorry to hear about your grandma and I can completely understand your concerns about her current state. Are there any other doctors who are looking after her or who are involved in her care that you can discuss this with? If not you are more than welcome to give our cancer nurses a call next week to get some information and advice. They are available Monday - Friday (except bank holidays) between 9a.m - 5p.m on 0808 800 4040, which is free to call from a UK landline.

Stay strong Lexiloo and keep us updated on what happens if you can. We will be thinking of you and sending positive thoughts your way.

    Best wishes to you both,
