Early Christmas for dying mum

After my mum was given 12 months to live in augest she's now taken a turn for the worse ans the Dr told us she won't make it to Christmas so I sugested to her we have an early Christmas so she can have her final one there are 6 of us 5 girls and 2 boys and 2 grandchildren has anyone in here ever done and early Christmas for a loved one before just looking for ways to make it more special for her

  • My Mother in Law was diagnosed last year in October and things deteriorated for her and she was so sad that she would miss Christmas.

At the end she was rushed to hospital for 6 days and in a hospice for 7 days. During her hospital stay, we encouraged lots of visitors and everyone brought a Christmas bauble, we hung them around her hospital room. When she moved to the hospice we put them up again with all of her cards. .

For June, who loved the sparkle of Christmas, she was so pleased to have so many loved ones come to see her. She couldn't really eat, but liked having foods she could share with other visitors. Everyone shared their good news stories and reminisced about happy times. There was laughter and good humour and rarely tears.

June loved to be dressed up, so we had a homemade Christmas quilt and a lovely festive fleece to cover her in bed and she could wear sparkly jewellery (getting dressed wasn't an option).

We had presents for her to open, which was difficult. But Xmas decs for the room and foods to share worked well. I gave her some thick moisturisers which meant I could moisturise her especially her legs and feet. Touch is so important and she enjoyed being pampered and selecting which "smelly" we would use.

What worked for our situation may not work for you, I think the key is knowing what will bring them joy. The most important thing might bevthat you go shopping for them so they can be giving presents, maybe? It's painful to look back on it now, but I know we did all that we. Plus to make it special for her and I'm sure you will do the same.
