My mother (59) has been battling breast cancer for the past five years, two years ago we found it had metasized to her liver and earlier this summer doctors told us they had found several spots on her brain. She went through two weeks of radiation and is now on at home chemotherapy (Xeloda 2000mg every 12 hours). I am currently in my final year of university living about two hours away from her, my father is already passed so for the moment ,till my brother comes home in two weeks, she is living by herself.
I'm fully aware of how serious her condition is and i really did struggle with going back to uni this year. I travel home every weekend, which has been fine so far, however this weekend I've found her condition has deteriorated. We think this is down to the Xeloda. She can barely stay awake and has very bad pain in her feet, from what i can see she has discomfort when walking too long. We're going to request that her doctors switch her to a different medication, because she has no quality of life at the moment.
I guess long story short, I just wanted to know has anyone experienced a similar case? I'm already a year behind in uni and I really would like to at least finish the semester out so I will not have to repeat the whole year next year, but i don't want to miss out on precious time with my mother either. Docter's as always will give no predictions. I don't want to be blinded by my desire to finish uni but I need to keep my life moving as long as I can. I know you can't predict the future, but if anyone could give me a rough timeline even of their own experiences it would really help so much.
