Worried Son looking for some advice

My mother was originally diagnosed with Bowel cancer in 2009, since then it has also appeared in her adrenal gland, both lungs and now it has returned in her abdomen. It's now metastatic and can no longer be treated with Chemo or radiotherapy. What I need to know, is how long she is likely to suffer. I realise that everyone is different, and who knows how her immune system will react. But being one of her sons in a different part of the country, and with the rest of my siblings and family being spread around the world, when the time comes I want to have made plans for the future and to be there to support my father. I guess I'm just looking for some comfort as to whether it might be years or months.
